HW Gibson Racing and TC invade Volusia for 2024 season opener

After Mother Nature wiped out both of his scheduled test sessions and Thursday’s opener, the 2024 season officially kicked off for Tristan Chamberlain on Friday evening at Volusia Speedway Park (De Leon Springs, Fla.) aboard the HW Gibson Racing No. 20TC Late Model for the fifth annual DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals.

Alongside a stacked field of 55 World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series entries to begin his pursuit for the 2024 Rookie of the Year honors, Chamberlain’s seventh-place showing in his heat race relegated him into a B-Main for another shot at the opener. Taking the top-two, Tristan nearly transferred from the fourth row, passing five cars only to come spot shy with a third-place finish.

Back at the half-mile oval on Saturday, Tristan timed in 16th-fastest in his 28-car group before placing sixth in his heat. Needing to finish second or better in his consolation race to qualify for the $15,000-to-win DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals finale, Chamberlain fell short with a fourth-place outing.
